Upper Lip Waxing - Guide
One of the most awkward
areas of the body to wax is the upper lip. Upper lip waxing
may not sound difficult but it can be surprisingly
complicated to do effectively and with the minimum amount of
pain. The simple solution is to visit a beauty salon for
upper lip waxing but this costs a lot of money – especially
if you need the treatment regularly. In this article I’ll be
going through how to wax your upper lip at home.
Everyone knows that waxing any part of the body can be
painful but the upper lip is an especially sensitive area.
It’s also somewhere that you definitely don’t want to injure
or damage. Before you start waxing you should consider
whether you really need to. For example, can you get by
using a "concealer" or bleaching the hair? Tweezing is
another option but most people find it extremely painful –
even more so than waxing. Nearly all women have a certain
amount of hair above their upper lip so you need to decide
whether waxing is the only solution.
To begin with you should buy an upper lip waxing kit. One of
the benefits of waxing your upper lip yourself is that you
don’t have to worry about over exuberant therapists who seem
intent on being as violent as possible. This is especially
useful if you have sensitive skin or a low pain threshold!
Most waxing kits will have instructions but there are a few
tips that they might miss out.
1. It might sound like overkill but it’s always a good idea
to take some mild painkillers such as paracetamol before you
wax any part of your body. This won’t mask the pain but can
take the edge off it and make the process more bearable.
2. Another tip is to leave waxing for at least a few hours
after you moisturize. Your skin should be dry when you start
waxing so that the wax comes off as easily as possible. Some
people also find that powdering their skin before waxing
makes it less painful as it protects the skin.
3. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully when
heating the wax. The manufacturer will have guidelines as to
what the wax should look like when you use it. That doesn’t
mean you shouldn’t test the temperature though – it’s very
difficult to gauge how hot the wax is without testing it
first.
4. You shouldn’t be too violent when you pull off the upper
lip waxing strip but you shouldn’t do it slowly either.
Using your other hand to stretch your skin and make it
tauter is usually a good idea as it helps the strip to come
away easily.
5. Most upper lip waxing kits come with an after cream to
help sooth and moisturize the skin so make sure you use it.
6. Pulling the strip away in a direction that’s opposite to
the way the hair is growing can make it less painful.
Upper lip waxing can seem like a daunting task but after
you’ve done it a few times it becomes much easier. By
following these tips you have a much greater chance of
performing upper lip waxing effectively and with as little
pain as possible.
I wish you all the best on your
upper lip waxing adventure!
Best wishes,
